Amber & Kyle’s wedding is one for the books. On October 1st, 2022, Amber and Kyle tied the knot at the beautiful Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, Connecticut. It was a cloudy fall day, but it was perfect.
Before my drive to Connecticut and before any wedding, I always check the weather. Rain was in the forecast, but it miraculously held off for us. We were lucky because, as memory serves, the wedding pictures that flooded my Instagram feed from my lovely photog friends around the country were full of rain. That weekend was right in the middle of hurricane season, and the East Coast felt it. And honestly, I love that it was an overcast day. The bright jewel tones for Amber and Kyle’s wedding really popped.
I loved their details. The faux flowers photographed beautifully, and the rings that everyone had instead of a bouquet were so cool. This is definitely a trend I would love to see continue. Her pearl shoes were my favorite, though. The shoes were so classy and elegant.
I can’t even with matching sweaters. I’ve often seen matching robes but never big, soft, fluffy sweaters. They were perfect for the chilly fall day, and I am here for them and those slippers!
While the ladies changed, I headed over to Kyle and his groomsmen while they got their boutonnieres pinned on. Amber’s brother Kyle put the special pocket square on Kyle (I know – and there were TWO MORE KYLES in the groom’s bach party, lol!). Then his mom pinned on the bout.
This was my favorite moment during the getting ready portion of the day. I love it when a bride surprises her bach party with her dress. Bach party first looks are the cutest. I even did one with my bestie, Heather, when she was married in September.
Kyle and Amber read each other their vows in private. It was so sweet.
I absolutely LOVE how the orange and cobalt blue look together. It’s the perfect fall combination.
Look at how stunning Amber looked. Perfect hair and a dress with wings. She looked like an angel.
What I love about cocktail hour is the opportunity for your friends and family to get some extra shots together, all dressed up before the rest of the night begins. If I am shooting solo like I did for this wedding, I spend the first half of cocktail hour capturing the special untouched reception details. Then after everyone has had some time to relax and mingle, I come out and grab the candids, couples, and friends. When I have my second shooter, they take care of this for me so I can spend more time on the details. Amber & Kyle had some gorgeous reception decor. Those gold charivari chairs are everything.
This is my favorite image of the entire day. This is also why I love my 85 MM lens. It was a small room and an even smaller space to move around in to capture, but with my 85, it felt like they were the only people in the room. Plus, this was the happiest that I had seen Kyle all day. Look at that smile; it says it all.
Due to the extra cloudy weather, there wasn’t really a sunset, but we made it work.
After getting a few quick sunset portraits in, we came in to get table shots, a must-have-shot on Amber’s list. There were 14 tables; we captured them all as dinner was served.
After the sweat parent-child dance, Amber and Kyle did something I had never seen before. They had a scavenger hunt with their wedding party. Each side had 10 people, not including the flower girl and ring bearer. So there were 9 levels of the scavenger hunt. Amber planned it very well so that someone would be eliminated each round. They had to grab keys, shoes, something blue, etc. It was chaos as the wedding party swirled around me to dash for the required item. Everyone wanted that prize. Then afterward, the dance floor was officially opened up, and it was party time!
At the end of the night, we snuck away for some night portraits before I left so they could carry on with the celebrations. Amber & Kyle, I hope you enjoy your forever honeymoon!!
